I believe it, do you?

“I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord;
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day, He rose again;
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.”

These are the words of the Apostles Creed, the basic points of our faith, what we as Christ followers believe. Every word bringing with it on different days joy and sorrow, happiness and pain, the sometimes heavy emotions of following Christ, the difficult decisions of life, and the reminder that in parts of the world, claiming His name still means death.

Just this week, I heard again Third Day’s version called “Creed,” based on the song by Rich Mullins, and it hit me hard, reminding me of every reason I get up each morning and call upon Christ as my savior.
 Lead singer Mac Powell says “I believe it, I believe it,” adding, “and I believe what I believe is what makes me what I am. I did not make it, no it is making me.”
And I believe it, I believe it.
Yes, it, too, is making me what I am. For that I’m glad.
