This one wasn’t so much a surprise as a welcome, yet unexpected cherry on top of so much happiness already unfolding in our home. I remember the positive pregnancy test, and the quiet, grateful leap in my heart: “Really, Lord? Another one? What have I done to be given so much?”
Simon is busy. Gregarious. Curious. Smart. Funny. Helpful. Passionate.
He’s also introspective, prone to frustration, sometimes painfully shy, and given to fears that loom large in his little mind.
Something about Simon is much wiser and more mature than his four years, and I don’t mean that in the academic sense. He feels people’s pain and he takes genuine joy from the successes of others. He is quick with a hug, with a gentle pat, and with a hand extended.
There are few things more adorable than a four year-old boy, and this one? This one embodies all of that, and more.
Happy birthday, Simon. We love you to the stars and the moon, and back again. There is so much wrapped up in that petite little package. We can’t wait to see what plans God has for you, sweet boy!
