College Students, 2018-2019

Last week, our three oldest children reported to their respective college campuses. It signaled the end of our family’s summer, and the beginning of another season of remembering that though we are allowed the privilege of carrying the quiver, the arrows themselves belong to the Lord.

Babita started her third year of classes at Crown Nepal while we slept last night. During the academic year, she lives in the girls’ dormitory and enjoys the fellowship and outings. She is kept busy with classes and church activities, and looks forward to various conferences and other special events. This year, she begins her study of Greek! While we dearly wish she was on this side of the globe doing the same, we are grateful for the home she has found at Crown and the mentorship of strong Christians we know and admire.

Mary Hannah‘s classes at The Crown College began Friday. The weekend was full of events designed to get students enrolled in various ministries and activities, and she’s already logged in quite a few study hours. The highlight of “Back to School” for Mary Hannah was probably seeing the friends she’s missed all summer. Since she balances the classes she takes with the classes she teaches (as well as a third job), she’s a part-time student. And she lives at home. I, for one, am outrageously grateful that I get to see this smiling face every morning. She says she is, too… and I believe her.

We drove Mathäus to Bryan College last Thursday. It was every bit as emotional as I knew it would be. He’s living in a dorm that seems like a good fit for him, and his roommate appears to be a quiet, laid back young man. Aside from multiple people mishearing “I’m Mathäus,” as “Amadeus,” and thinking he was named after Mozart, his move-in was uneventful. He has also been tapped to play on a newly-formed club soccer team. In other words, he’s fitting in just fine.

So there you have it— the three oldest, flying into their futures. I’ll share how I feel about all of this some other time. Today, I’m concentrating on the joy of having children who are seeking the Lord and following His call on their lives… wherever that has them.
