Pockets. So trim. So adorable. So easy.

A good pocket diaper is enough to convert even a die-hard disposable user. The problem arises when the new-to-cloth Momma wades in to the offerings. The market is literally flooded with options, ranging in price from “Let’s mortgage the homestead” to “Can those possibly be decent?” And that doesn’t even begin to tackle the nuances of individual designs. Snaps or hook and loop? One size? Lower rise? Elastic at the tummy, or just around the back? Crossover wings? Gussets? Microfiber? Fleece? Envelope?

What if you’re simply looking for a solid diaper that’s a good value to base your stash around? What if you just want something that works, doesn’t leak, washes up well, and fits as your baby grows? Where do you start then?

Let me introduce you to Glow Bug.

glowbug

Based on the idea that a great cloth diaper can handle being both reliable and cute, Glow Bug has embraced some of the best features of a pocket… with a twist.

P1460716

Beautifully constructed diaper. Great quality, no PUL issues or flaws in workmanship, and a leak-free track record for us.

P1460711

Easy adjustable rise that grows with your baby, and allows for different levels of stuffing. Each Glow Bug comes with a microfiber or bamboo insert. The pocket opens on both ends, which makes for easy laundry (inserts will agitate out in the wash) and also accommodates prefolds or pad-folded flats.

P1460793

Cross-over wings with a well-placed, droop-proofing snap to keep everything right where you want it.

And then there’s this:

P1460826

A unique, 360 degree internal gusset.

P1460825

This barrier prevents even slippery EBF poo from finding its way out of containment. Let me tell you– Jude put this feature to the test. I’m happy to report that our favorite white onesie is none the worse for the wear thanks to this gusset system.

P1460824

During our review period, I read multiple concerns about the gusset being potentially hard to clean due to the design, which might trap solids under the wall of elastic, causing stains. While we’ve had some pilling of the SlimDry liner, there are zero stains, even with some powerful newborn poo in the offing.

And finally, the cute factor! Glow Bug has some seriously adorable prints, many of which I haven’t seen anywhere else. This instrument-themed diaper makes my music-happy family smile. I didn’t pick the print, but if I had, I would have had a hard time choosing. Seriously, these are some cute diapers!

Another way in which this company is both unique and a great fit for folks looking for a go-to is in their sales model. Unlike most retailers, who sell by the item, Glow Bug sells in packages. Twelve diapers, built around a theme (Braniac, Botanist, and Explorer) retails for $189. That comes out to $15.75 per diaper– a lot less than many popular pockets. Plus: instant stash!

Glow Bug is offering To Sow a Seed readers a 5% discount (click here to shop and receive the discount) as well as the chance to win a single diaper in the print of your choice. Entries are open to residents of the US and Canada. Ready, set, Glow!
