In more than seven years of cloth diapering, I never owned an all-in-one. There. I said it.

Honestly, the idea never appealed to me. In my mind, AIO’s were like pockets, only with a longer dry time. Who needs that? Not this Momma.

And then I had Jude.

This won’t be TMI for the cloth diapering among us, but all you voyeurs scared off by baby body fluids: look away. Because Jude can pee. I am not joking, guys. This baby boy can soak like nobody’s business. At home, this is no biggie. Sixteen weeks into life with this little man, and I am trained like a trick pony to change him every one and a half to two hours, lest my lap pay the price. But even introverted hermits like myself have to leave the house every once in a while, and frequent changes on the go (with five or more kids in tow) aren’t always practical.

Time to bring in the big guns.

In cd’ing circles, there are a handful of Holy Grail options for little ones who flood. Way up there towards the top of the list is Chelory. Legend has it that a Chelory AIO will hold a whopping 13 ounces of liquidCan you even imagine?

Chelory is the boutique label of WAHM Rachel, a cloth diapering mother with an eye for detail and a talent for creating an exceptional product. I’ll be honest: her diapers are beautiful. These aren’t just prints— they’re original pieces of fabric art that happen to double as diapers. And if that sounds corny, well … you just don’t get what it means to hold something in your hands that hasn’t just been thrown together in a factory, but rather, crafted by an artisan who took pride in her trade.

I received a black Stay-Dry AIO. This is a one-size diaper, and is advertised to fit between 12-40 pounds.

The rise adjustment snaps (in funky rainbow colors) are solid and don’t have that “loose hold” that drive you nuts when you’re trying to get the fit just right. Actually, everything about this diaper screams quality. The hook and loop tabs are thick and substantial, and the laundry foldbacks are placed in such a way that they don’t rub against baby’s skin. The rise adjusts in a relatively unique way; if you’re using this on a smaller baby, I’d take the time to check out the page dedicated to the snap settings to familiarize yourself with the workings. Jude weighs right around 25 pounds, and he’s on the medium setting.

This is a substantial diaper. It is not the trimmest thing you’ll put on your baby– but it’s not designed to be. The stay-dry version we tried mixes Zorb, Wicking Jersey, and Bamboo to create a thirsty diaper that absorbs quickly, keeps baby’s bum dry, and lasts far longer than your average offering.

Even with all those layers, getting a good fit isn’t as tricky as I feared. Jude has some thighs on him (ahem!) and once I learned to make sure the elasticized edges nestled in the creases of his groin area, I was surprised that “all that diaper” didn’t seem like too much at all.

Despite a lack of leg gussets, the Chelory had zero leakage issues. For perspective: Jude can wear a fitted with a bamboo insert for two hours. The Chelory has gone three without leaking. It’s also worth noting that compression leaks from carseats and baby wearing aren’t an issue with this diaper. I wondered how it would perform at its fullest point with all 25 pounds of baby squishing it in an ergo, but I walked away from the experience with a dry shirt. All that to say … if you’ve got a heavy wetter, this is your diaper. (I have also heard that it makes an excellent overnight diaper, but cannot personally attest to that.)

After repeated washings, we’ve had very, very minimal pilling and zero stains. This diaper may seem pricey at $28.95, but I can see it not only lasting through multiple children in your own home, but still maintaining resale value, as well. You just don’t get that with most diapers.

But what about that dreaded AIO drawback: the drying time? For sure, the Chelory took longer to dry than anything else we own. I typically line dry, and even in the 99 degree North Carolina summer, the times I hung this diaper out, it was an all-day affair. Looping the sewn-in soakers inside out seems to help somewhat. But to be honest, this diaper has such a deep, beautiful color, I prefer to hang it inside to prevent fading, then pop it in the dryer for the last bit when it’s mostly dry. Not the most practical approach, I know, but since this is our go-to for errands and, as I said, I’m an introverted hermit, I can wait a little longer for it to be ready to go.

In addition to AIOs in both solids and prints, Chelory offers AI2s, customs, and a whole host of other products. Her embroidered birth stats diapers are to die for. No, really.

  1. So glad to read this. I too have a heavy wetter and I am constantly changing fitted diapers.

  2. I have to admit that my Grovia AIOs are my favorites of all the diapers I’ve tried. I’d love to give this gorgeous model a try!

  3. We LOVE Rachel and Chelory diapers!! We have one diaper of their’s, the stay-dry AIO, I bought it for Passover in ’14. She wore it then and one other time, my father’s funeral last July. He loved that diaper and I can’t bring myself to put it on her again. So, we would love to have another!!
I liked how I could wrap the two layers around the shell and within a couple of hours on the line, completely dry!

Thank you for the fantastic review and the opportunity to win!! God bless ♡

  4. Thanks for the review and giveaway! I’ve only heard good things of these diapers, hopefully we’ll be able to try one soon.
My favorite thing of AIO is that my hubby isn’t intimidated by them and helps with diaper changes 🙂

  5. It seems like they would be super easy for someone who doesn’t usually change the little one to do it and not get terribly overwhelmed.

  6. I prefer AIOs because they are so easy to explain to sitters, day care, grandparents. And as long as you #buyallthediapers, waiting for them to dry is not a problem.

  7. They are so easy to just wash and put away, no time when you have two little ones around.

  8. They’re so simple to use! They’re almost exactly like a disposable, but SO much better for baby 🙂

  9. My favorite feature about AIOs is that it’s all in one: no stuffing, no piecing together, just fasten and go!

  10. I like that they’re easy enough that my honey could do it if he needed to. Also good for when I’m not feeling good and don’t want to wrestle with my wiggly little man to get 2 things on him.

  11. I love how easy AIO’s are when doing diaper changes out on the town. This diaper sounds great as our 7 week old is already a heavy wetter!

  12. My favorite feature on an AIO is an additional pocket for adding boosters for extra absorbency. The grab it and go is great too.

  13. To be honest, I am not a fan of aios. The dry time is just to much. Although I have a simaler problem with a fast and heavy wetter and am now considering giving them another chance.

  14. I love the simplicity and that it’s easier for other people to change diapers

  15. I love AIOs because they’re great for other caregivers. Also good on my lazy days when I’m backed up on laundry and don’t feel like stuffing a diaper or folding a prefold. This AIO in particular, I like that it’s still pretty trim but absorbent and I LOVE those rainbow snaps!!

  16. I love the idea of having an absorbent AIO in the diaper bag ready to go. The mix of fabrics in this one sounds great.

  17. My favorite thing is how easy they are no stuffing, matching pieces, or looking for a snappi. Even the grandparents can figure it out.

  18. We haven’t tried any AIOs yet but I guess my favorite feature would be how easy it is to use (especially for grandmas and uncles!)

  19. I think that the absorbency is my favorite feature of an AIO. Being able to use it as a pocket diaper, and add inserts is a great feature that can turn this diaper into a night time diaper.

  20. Best feature of AIO’s – it doesn’t confuse the babysitters!!!! 😀 And I don’t have to stuff them… A Chelory would be great, seeing as it is excellent for not leaking!

  21. My favorite AIO feature is that there’s no insert to have to find (and possibly confuse with other inserts) and stuff (and then unstuff), everything is all together and stays together!

  22. I’ve never tried an All in One but I love how easy it seems to be to put on and off. I love that this one has fabrics other than microfiber!

  23. The ease of using and no stuffing. It’s easy for daddy because he never has to guess what insert to use, just put the diaper on and done

  24. They are so easy to use, from what I’ve heard, like disposables easy. I don’t have any but would love to have at least a couple in my stash.

  25. I love aios because they don’t require anything else. You also don’t have to stuff them, and I think that alone is a good reason to love aios. 🙂

  26. I haven’t tried an AIO yet but I’d love to for the simple changes for Nana and Aunt

  27. I’ve never tried AIOs, but I may need to after reading this. I, too, have a verrrry heavy wetter, and I’d love some more options for him!

  28. I am a cloth diaper newbie and I like how aio are the closest to disposables as far as easy of use. I have been doing alot of research and think aio are the way to go for us. Convenience is key for a full time working mom

  29. Thank you for your review. My girl is also a heavy wetter and can sometimes soak a diaper in 30 to 40 minutes. I like AIO because you don’t have to stuff or unstuff a thing!

  30. I love how simple they are. All in one’s are the only kind my husband can handle lol.

  31. I have not used cloth diapers yet, starting in October! But AIO seem like a very convenient way to transition into cloth, from only doing disposables with 2 previous kids.

  32. So fast for my little boy who looooow use the bathroom in the middle of a change. Speed is key!

  33. Love how aio are just that all in one. seem so convenient for the first time cloth diaper moms

  34. My favorite part of AIO diapers is that there’s no stuffing required! We have tons of different brands of pocket diapers, and it can be a pain to match them up with the right inserts!

  35. I love that AIOs give me the option to have a daycare diaper dry quickly in the dryer with no prep from me if I’ve been slacking on my laundry.

  36. Best part of AIOs are that they involve no extra work. They go in and out of the laundry and directly on to the stash.

  37. I don’t have an aio in my stash, but would love to try this one. I haven’t tried anything with zorb in it either. I love the color.

  38. I love the convenience. Getting my diapers ready and struggling to get a prefold on baby is tough when she is wiggling around lol.

  39. not sure yet- Im having my baby in Dec. So far though- it seems like they are cute, stay all together, and are practical.

  40. I love how easy the AIOs are to use. MiMi keeps our 9 month old and I can send it and have confidence in knowing she’ll know how to use it!

  41. I love that AIOs are easy to use, there is no stuffing or putting together. This is essential when you have a toddler who wants to roll off the changing table.

  42. I haven’t started cloth diapering yet, but I like the sound of AIOs because they don’t need to be stuffed.

  43. We haven’t started diapering yet, our baby’s due in February, but I love how easy they seem to be!

  44. Love the black with rainbow snaps!!!! Super cute! Love the soaker combo too with the wicking jersey on top! That stuff never stains!!!

  45. My favorite thing about AIOs is that everybody in our surroundings is comfortable with it. The main babysitter, grandparents, friends that occasionally babysit, they are comfortable with it.
