This Christmas, there is healing.
We’re still raw in some places, still bruised in others. But overall, we are mid-stream on the process that will bring us to a place of looking in the rearview mirror with only pangs, not sobs.
That alone deserves celebration.
So we’re having an Open House.
We’re throwing open the doors and inviting people into our space, to sit at our hearth, to draw near and know us.
It feels huge. It feels like a giant declaration of a New Thing. The amount of trust we’re extending may be lost on many, but those who met us only in the days and weeks after our arrival from Nepal get it. We have held them all at arm’s length for a year; they felt it, even when we didn’t.
And now we are saying, “Come near. Rejoice in the birth of Christ with us.”
It is both a small thing, and a big one. Come, Emmanuel!
For the cookie bakers among us, I have to share: I found the most amazing chocolate peppermint cookies at Minimalist Baker. They’re new to me, and I threw them into the mix of traditional cookies for the Open House with some confidence as I’ve not found a dud recipe on Dana’s site yet. But even I was shocked at how good they are. Seriously. Try them.
