It’s been a week and two days, and we’re slowly settling in. Our furniture is finding its place, the drawers are starting to make sense, and the outline of of a routine is beginning to take shape.

Settling

Like all major changes, this one has been at turns happy (Christopher’s nightly walks around the perimeter of our land) and discomfiting (two bathrooms for a family this size means that sometimes, a lingering party is ousted). And, like all moves, this one requires us to wrestle the space to meet our needs– even if that means reimagining a laundry room or storing snacks in a nontraditional spot (like that cabinet behind Birdie in the pic above).

I am looking forward to the phase that comes next: the painting and decorating and claiming of space that makes a house feel like home. I’m daydreaming curtains and chalk paint and where, exactly, the unnecessary but us bits will finally land.

It’s a work in progress, like all things, but it’s happening.
