As gut-punch challenging as this year has been for our family personally, ministry has thrived. It’s a balm in the moments when we start to wonder if Job’s friends are going to start showing up to offer advice; At least, we console ourselves, the Gospel is being preached.
Today, just a few weeks after his return from Ethiopia, Christopher left again. This time, the destination was Nepal, and Jack is his fellow laborer. This trip was rescheduled after flooding derailed the first attempt. There was some concern that a later trip would require Jack to forego his part on the team; but there he was this morning, on the curb at the airport, Timothy to his Dad’s Paul.
The work this time takes them back into the farthest unreached corners of the country, to a rural village they scouted out last year. They won’t share the details of the nine hour drive they’re anticipating once they leave Kathmandu; we have a don’t ask, don’t tell policy regarding the travel conditions in most countries because, well… I’m the wife and mother. Once they arrive, Christopher will begin training church planters alongside our dear friend Hari. Jack’s part in the process begins before that, however. He’s handling a longer-term series of projects that requires filming the sessions, interviewing church planters, and documenting details of the process.
It feels good to see the work flourishing. It’s a tremendous blessing to send my husband and son to minister alongside one another. It’s encouraging to feel God’s hand so clearly opening doors to preach to those who have not heard. Despite some hard personal circumstances this year, the work has not stopped. Despite an unexpected drop in funding, God has been faithful. We continue on in faith, knowing that we are blessed to be part of the larger work of introducing others to Jesus. Clearly, we’re on the right track.
