I wrote out the August schedule on the dry erase master calendar I keep on the side of our fridge yesterday. Wiping away July was a little sad, because as full as it seemed some weeks, there was still a margin— a wisp of summer— that I knew would be missing once we turned the page to August.

I was right.

Years ago, September was the perfect storm of all things restarting, and birthdays, and school. Whether it’s just living in the South (where the school year runs August-May) or my season of life, I don’t know. But August is something to be feared, I tell you.

We have four big travel events this month: my in-law’s 50th wedding anniversary weekend, a two-day missions training, an overnight retreat we’re hosting, and Christopher leaving for Nepal. We’re also hosting a combined birthday celebration for my Dad and younger brother here at the farm, during a much-needed visit with said brother and his lovely wife. Mid-way through the month, Mary Hannah and Mathaus move on campus to go back to their college lives, which is bittersweet. Our CC community is back in full swing this month. Both Birdie and John Mark will be auditioning for the youth symphony. And…

Babita is getting married!

August

(Isn’t she gorgeous? I know I’m biased, but come on!)

We’re looking forward to August, and sandwiching in all of the amazing goodness the month has to offer… while maintaining our sanity, if at all possible.
