Phineas is a teenager.

He turned 13 on Sunday, and we celebrated in Phineas style. That meant oatmeal with peanut butter for breakfast, and a 4 pound tub of peanut butter as a gift (yes, he got others… don’t worry!), and fruit juice jigglers for a birthday dessert.

It also meant a viewing of his favorite movie ever, the original Toy Story.

He colored in his new doodle book, and built his new Lego underwater robot with some help from his younger brother, John Mark. He also got about ten million hugs and kisses from his Momma, which he’s not quite as smitten with as he once once. (I’m learning to adjust to the new, improved, and less cuddly version of Phineas, but I admit it’s hard!)

And then he had peanut butter and oatmeal for dinner, because, you know… it was his birthday. “Balanced nutrition” is not something we discuss on birthdays around here.

Basically, he lived life as he always does: happily swimming from one moment to the next, taking things at face value, shrugging off the not so great, and drinking in the good with gusto.

I think 13 is going to be one of Phin’s best years yet, and I can’t wait to watch him handle the changes and challenges just around the corner with his easy-going, “it is what it is,” approach to life.
