Every August, as we mark what can kind of be called the first day of school, I stage photos. I line my kids up (barefoot, because they’re always barefoot) in the same place, holding a sign. They smile. I post it somewhere, file it away, and look back on it as an ebenezer of my kids’ growth.
This year, I forgot.
Guys, I literally forgot.
And then, when I remembered… I forgot again.
Yeah, it’s been that kind of year.
Thankfully, the actual process of home education has gone much more smoothly. We’re living our lives, learning, playing, picking up new interests, making mistakes and showing grace. Jude has begun Orton-Gillingham tutoring and is making incredible strides after a dyslexia assessment. Phin is focusing on life skills and art. Birdie has grabbed her creativity by the horns and spends hours penning stories. Jem is immersed in the online Hunter Safety Course. And Simon read the bulk of this term’s history book in one sitting and now has me scrambling for more resources.
Without further ado, I offer you the 2022-23 lineup at Great Commission Academy, complete with a cute tag along. I’m pretty sure you’ll spot her.
