These are websites, books, videos, and other resources that correlate with CC Cycle 2, week 2 New Grammar. A few quick disclaimers: I have used every resource that I list, but I may not have used it as intended. (For example, you’ll see a note under the Latin heading about a file folder game I printed and slipped into a page protector for reuse as a printable each week.) Also, I am very comfortable editing books that I read to my children on the fly. If you are concerned about the level or content of a book or resource, please peruse in advance. Cycle 2 Weekly Resources

SCIENCE

This blog post from Elemental Blogging is a great resource for Masters students who may ask, “Is it a habitat, or a biome?” She includes additional reading recommendations and more!
A free biome photo sorting game.
This is a free TPT download for a biome activity and ongoing related learning opportunities.
A Biodiversity Scavenger Hunt card for a nature walk in your own biome!
There are many ways to make a biome in a bottle. This link gives directions for a simplified version as well as a more advanced (think: Masters) version. This link is even more detailed, and offers follow up information that you could use as part of your science studies all year long! (Might be good fodder for those Enhanced Masters!)
Biomes of the World video on YouTube
Homeschool Den has some wonderful biome resources, including this free printable biome map in full color. (This takes some time to download, print, and assemble, so prep ahead!)

Books

Rebecca Johnson has a series of books that detail walking through various biomes and habitats for younger students.

HISTORY

Famous Figures of Medieval Times has many of this cycle’s main historical figures represented.
Dover’s Warriors Through the Ages coloring book has a Norman soldier represented.
The BBC has an online game which allows you to play at the Battle of Hastings as either Harold or William.
This 4 minute video animates the Bayeux Tapestry and is simply fascinating. (Has titles you will need to read to your youngest students, and obviously, there’s some war here.)
A Young Person’s Guide to the Battle of Hastings on YouTube is specifically sited as being for 8-10 year-olds.
BBC Kids has an interactive, flash-based “Life of a Young Norman” tour complete with additional resources and readings.
Want to recreate the Battle of Hastings in your own home with paper soldiers? Of course you do. Here’s your chance.
Another BBC resource— this one is a spoof of the Battle of Hastings that couldn’t be more English if it tried.

Books

William the Conqueror, by Jacob Abbott
William the Conqueror (Ladybird Histories)
The Bayeux Tapestry, by Norman Denny

ENGLISH

What Are Pronouns? video on YouTube for kids.
Half a Hundred Acre Wood has a great pronoun match game.
These games for pronoun review work best with more than one child, as they are designed for a classroom setting.
Schoolhouse Rock’s pronoun song is beyond catchy, and entertaining, too. Even older students enjoy it.
Grammaropolis has a pronoun game.

MATH

Free printable skip counting math mats for Abecedarians and Apprentices from The Crafty Classroom.
Skip counting mazes are one of my Apprentice student’s favorites.
Skip counting puzzles for Abecedarians.
Scholastic offers dot-to-dots of multiplication problems.
Free printable flashcards from 1-15!

Books

Anno’s Counting Book, and Anno’s Mysterious Multiplying Jar, by Mitsumasa Anno

GEOGRAPHY

This is a link I have not yet used, but am slowly gathering materials to assemble. I fell in love with those beautiful Montessori-inspired pin map sets, but they are decidedly not in the budget. The Homeschool Den has a DIY version that fits the bill, and can be customized to your studies! If you try it, let me know!
Sheppard Software has a European Lakes game. All of my Foundations students have used these, as they are at different levels.

LATIN

Latin Tutorial on YouTube provides just that for Masters and possibly Journeymen.
I love Half-A-Hundred Acre Woods Latin Match-up Game. I actually use it in page protectors in my kids’ binders, and have them write in the answers. (She also has a Latin Alphabet coloring book my younger kids get a kick out of.)
First conjugation endings posters.

FINE ARTS

Symmetry (mirror image) printables for Abecedarians and Apprentices.
Mirror image warm ups specifically written for use with Drawing with Children, the book CC recommends.
Math Salamanders has great resources for tying together this week’s art and mathematics!

Books

Mirror, Mirror: A Book of Reverso Poems, by Marilyn Singer
