This week brings nearly all of our normal rhythm back into play, with the added wrinkle of it also being the last week the college crew is home. There’s a tinge of sadness at picking up the threads of outside lessons and such these dwindling days of our time together, but this is how the calendar fell and well, it is what it is.
Mary Hannah and Mathaus return to campus Friday, and Jack will be with them this time. The older two are actually moving in a day early to accomodate Jack’s schedule. It’s funny, because several people have commented on how nice it must be to have adult children with such similar interests. The truth is, they’re not really cut from the same cloth at all. Proof of this is their majors: history and education, English and linguistics, and mathematics, respectively. I think that says a lot.
All three will continue working their winter break jobs until Tuesday, giving themselves Wednesday and Thursday to pack and run errands. We will miss their last day at home, for the most part, since CC resumes Thursday.
We still don’t have guidance on what CC will actually look like, but I don’t think we’re solo in that boat. The whole nation rather feels like it’s holding its breath right now, seeing how these next few weeks play out. I think the best we can all do given the uncertain context of the season is to walk in some grace and be ready to pivot when asked to do so. At least, that’s how I’ve decided to operate. I could have spent this weekend gnashing my teeth over the unknowns. Instead, I started my annual Bible in 90 Days plan, upcycled a felted sweater into several pairs of mittens, and helped welcome a new breeding doe to the farm. Much more productive in the long term.
So, today, back to learning at home, back to violin. This week, OT, math, cello, CC, a new read-aloud, fun with chemistry, my weekly OB appointment.
Almost fully normal.
We’re back.
All interested in academics is a step closer together than some siblings are. 🙂 But yes, there’s some distance (as well as some overlap) between those sets of fields…
