We are homeschoolers. Therefore, we love the library.

Seriously– I know that plenty of other families adore their local library. But homeschoolers, well … we take it to another level altogether, don’t we?

We are blessed beyond belief to be served by a system that goes above and beyond in its offerings. An exhaustive catalog. Family events. New release movies. Free holds. Themed kits. Ebooks. No fines.

Yes, you read that correctly. No fines. Feel free to hate me.

We probably hit the library three times a week, on average. Two of those trips (and any extras) are just to grab items from the hold shelves or drop off those books and such that we’re done with. But once a week, we descend, en masse, on the library proper. This is the trip we all love. This is the browse time.

Like kids in a, ummm … bookstore, we wander the stacks, sometimes alone, sometimes in pairs, sometimes as a whole crash of rhinos. It takes no more than an hour, but oh, how we all love this time.

At the end of the gleaning, we enjoy an almost silent ride home while we listen to our newest audiobook or music cd, or leaf through our literary finds. I can pretty much count on a very contented rest time on library days.

Books are good, good things.
