Missions. God’s call on every Christian. We can’t just ignore it. It is the last thing Jesus said during his stay on earth.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”” Matthew 28:19-20 NASB
That doesn’t give us a lot of room to not do it.
And yet we still don’t do it. I’m not saying you have to stand on a box in Times Square or get up before millions like Billy Graham. You don’t have to travel to a communist stronghold or infiltrate a military dictatorship. Yes, some are called to those things, and if it’s you I salute you for following that call. But that might not be you. Your job might be to smile a store clerk or give a friend a dollar.
Can you imagine if we all went to Africa to preach the gospel? Sure, Africa would probably be full of Christians… but what about the other six continents?
We can’t all have the same jobs. Can you imagine if in the army everyone was a general? It would be a mess.
I’m going to be going to Haiti next week. I’ll admit, it scares the heck out of me. But I’m going to do it. And I’m not going to stand here and act like I’m some saint– because I’m not. To be honest, I wouldn’t have even considered the trip if my dad hadn’t asked me to pray about accompanying him. But the more I payed about it, the more I knew I had to go.
I’m sure you’re waiting for me to ask you for your cash. I’m not going to do that. I mean if you want to send money to help encourage believers in Haiti, I won’t object. But what I really want you to do is think about what your call is right now.
It might be shaking a hand or saying hello. Yeah, it might be being killed as a martyr in ISIS-controlled territory (if it is I honor you and can’t wait to meet you in heaven). But it’s probably simply singing a song or or just being happy and making some else’s day brighter. Whatever it is–no matter how dangerous it is–it’s a lot safer than not following God.
I heard a pastor once say that while you are in God’s will you are invincible until you have completed your purpose. I’m not saying you won’t die. You could. But would you rather be killed painfully for a few hours at the most, or sentence others eternity in hell. I aspire to be one of those people who would gladly swap my place with another who is about die, for the sole reason that I am confident of where I’m going but he isn’t.
I hope you will hear what I am saying. But most of all I hope that you will hear what God is saying to you.
